SEND

Pupils with Special Educational Needs

A key principle which underpins the ethos of Oakmeadow is that all children are valued and entitled to equality of educational opportunity. This means that all our pupils' needs are regarded as special and that the needs of pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (SEND) will be addressed naturally within the school’s learning policy.

At Oakmeadow, we strive to provide a supportive learning environment for all our pupils. We endeavour to offer a curriculum that recognises the needs of every child, supports self-esteem and provides opportunities to fulfil personal potential. Working closely in partnership with our parents, the local community and external agencies enables Oakmeadow to achieve this. With the majority of our children attending our Nursery provision, barriers to learning and social and emotional development can be identified at the earliest opportunity.

Support is provided through our 'Learning 4 Life Framework' at Oakmeadow, whereby the majority of pupils’ needs are met through our Universal Offer and specifically through Quality First Teaching. Where a pupil's needs are greater, further exploration will identify additional provision through our 'Waves' process to support the pupil's needs: specific adaptions, a short-term intervention programme, high-level intervention or  extensive personalised provision, possibly with additional funding required, via a bespoke provision offer (An Early Intervention Grant, Graduated Support or Education, Health and Care Plan) will be sought.

The robust systems and procedures within school, ensure children with SEND are identified at the earliest opportunity and specific strategies and targeted interventions are put in place to support them. Our experienced and qualified SEND Team possess a wealth of skills and experience to support children with a range of special needs as well as being there to support families and parents.

The SEND section of this website contains information about Oakmeadow's SEN provision and some of the many ways in which we seek to fulfil our responsibilities to those children who need support during their time with us.
